![]() Essentially, its a once-per-day power that lets you reanimate everything within a large radius around you. I once saw a video demonstrating that even at level 40, he couldn't beat a bandit chief.Īs for other necromancy, the only really worthwhile effect is the ritual stone. You see a lot of mention of Ulfric too, since he's the only dead thrall that can use shouts, however, he doesn't wear armor, which makes him quite weak. Umana is another popular choice, mainly because of her shield. ![]() Also, his maximum level is 40, so he makes a very ideal deal thrall. He's a mage so you can't really equip him with much, but he has a lot of hp, some really potent healing spells that make him hard to kill, he teleports around during fights, and he has some very strong aoe destruction spells. One of the most famous choices for dead thralls is orchendor. ![]() You can check this list here for popular examples: This should put it above most named npcs (few level past 50).įor who to raise, some npcs are better than others. One way to fix this is to take the necromage perk from the restoration tree, which will increase the level of undead you can raise. This could pose an issue since if you're above level 40, you may suddenly find that you can't resurrect your own thralls. Also, your thrall's levels always update to whatever they would be at if they were still alive at your current level, though this will only update when you raise them again. You won't be able to raise certain high-level vampires and forsworn, for example. Of course, a dremora lord takes far less hassle to use.įor raising undead, dead thrall has a level limit of 40, so it can't raise anything about that. Either way, using these two skills, you can easily make your dead thrall stronger than a dremora lord. What it doesn't tell you is that effect won't apply to undead that are wearing enchanted armor, so keep that in mind. Also, you'll notice that the conjuration tree has a perk called 'dark souls' which gives undead extra hp. As a general rule, only things that affect attributes or regen (along with some other 'attributes' like health and carryweight), and the two melee skills. Just keep in mind that most enchantments don't work on followers, and that includes dead thralls. To optimize them, you pretty much need both smithing AND enchanting to buff up their gear. They will NOT summon it again if it dies during combat, If they have a staff that can summon things, they'll use it at the start of a fight and then put it away. ![]() Also, anything that's been decapitated or turned to ash can't be raised, so you may need to avoid specific perks depending your skills.įor weapons, there is no limit they'll use any weapons, staves, or shields you give them. This means that you can't use dead thrall on something like a draugr deathlord. Most necromancy spells will work on anything that isn't a dragon or dwemer automoton, but dead thrall will only work on npcs who are a race you can play as. They will wear any armor that spawned in their inventory, even if there's more than one piece in existence. You can use this to deplicate items, or to give you more choices as to what you want them to wear. The game will spawn in new armor for them. One trick you can do btw is to take all their armor, dead thrall them, then go through a load door. Also, if you use dead thrall on a follower that died, they will continue to wear whatever they were wearing when they died, even if its not in their leveled list. It just has to be the same item that came from their inventory. You can also smith and enchant their armor without problem, even if you change the name. However, you CAN take their armor from them and give it back, the only issue is they'll only put it on if they were wearing it before. There are few exceptions to this, mainly forsworn which can use any forsworn armor (they all share a leveled list, which is why). Even if you replace it with a piece of armor of the same type, it won't work, it HAS to be the armor that spawned in their inventory. For instance, if you raise a bandit, they will only wear the armor that they died in. Most of the time, this means that an individual thrall will only use armor that they can spawn in. Using that, you can actually make your own custom summon that's stronger than a dremora lord, but there's some things you need to be aware of to accomplish this:ĭead thralls will only use armor from their leveled list. The only necromancy spell that's really worthwhile is dead thrall. Necromancy, honestly, in this game is rather weak (at least, early on).
